Why I created Gigway
Born and raised in the United Kingdom, I have spent more than 32 years living and working overseas. I first came to China in March 2000 — and what began as a visit soon became a deep and lasting connection with the country. Over the years, China became not only a place where I have lived and worked, but a place I came to call home.
I have stayed in the hotels, walked the ancient streets, eaten in local restaurants, and celebrated alongside communities through every season and festival.
The China I know has truly opened its doors to the world.
China has become much more than somewhere I have worked and travelled. It is a country I have come to know through its people, places, culture and everyday life. I have also been fortunate to share more than 25 years of my life with my partner.

In a previous role, I invited distinguished artists to China, organised tours across different regions and provinces, and arranged workshops and lectures that brought people together through culture. That experience took me well beyond the usual tourist routes and gave me a perspective on China that continues to shape the journeys I create today.
